The denim skirt hasn’t really ever gone away entirely but it definitely had a serious lull. After a few years, when it reminded us a bit too much of our 90s teenage selves, it’s cool again — and has been for a little while now. Quelle surprise, the renaissance kicked off with the Vetements denim skirt — satisfyingly raw hemmed, with hem detailing like it was cut from a pair of jeans (then sold for £459).
As always, there are loads of denim skirts on the high street, but not all of them are nice. Topshop’s Cut Out Mini Skirt is a solid Vetements lookalike — it’s slightly grungier denim wash, but the shape is spot on.
It's not just the high end denim that's been getting Insta-attention. Everyone's have been really into that embroidered Zara skirt — it’s almost unexpected (as in, it should be horrible), with its school scribble embroidery and distressed patches, but we’ve seen it looking very cool on Chiara Ferragni and Charlotte Groeneveld of The Fashion Guitar.
The denim mini an easy summer switch-in for your usual jeans, if you’re someone who struggles with hot weather dressing, as they pretty much go with anything.
