Omar Allibhoy Recipes

Spanish food, and brunch. If there was ever a foodie match made in heaven, that would most definitely be it. Now if you haven't already heard of Spanish celebrity chef Omar Allibhoy, then get googling. Not only is he a handsome devil, but he also cooks some of the most gorgeous Spanish food out there, and his new book, Spanish Made Simple: 100 Foolproof Spanish Recipes for Every Day, is giving us all the lazy-morning Spanish brunchspo.

Omar Allibhoy Tapas Revolution

Now while we all like to go out for brunch on the weekends, it's actually a really nice idea to invite the pals round and throw a laid-back breakfast at home. Whether it's for your sister's birthday, or a BF sleepover treat, cooking a Spanish brunch with authentic Spanish breakfast recipes is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. And, guess what? Omar Allibhoy's recipes will 100% help you achieve that goal.

First and foremost, a brunch needs a lovely lazy cocktail, and we think Omar Allibhoy's Sangria de Cava fits the bill. Plus, what's more Spanish than Sangria?

Sangria de Cava
Sangria made with Spanish Sparkling Wine

Omar Allibhoy Recipes - Sangria

'Cava is made in the same way as champagne. Not many sparkling wines use the same method and, to me, champagne and cava definitely have the edge over Prosecco or other sparkling wines. Cava has always been a celebration drink in Spain, but with prices being so affordable these days I thought I could make a sangria with it. The result is so refreshing, fruity and sharp.'

MAKES 2 LITRES (2 QUARTS)
1 orange
200g (1 cup) Soft Brown Sugar
1 Cinnamon Stick
10 Strawberries, quartered
1 Pear, cored and roughly
chopped
1 Peach, roughly chopped
200ml ( ¾ cup) Brandy
200ml ( ¾ cup) Cointreau
1 x 75cl bottle Spanish cava Brut
Fresh Mint Leaves

Refrigerate your glasses so that you can enjoy your drink as cold as possible.

Remove the zest of the orange in long strips. Squeeze the juice into a saucepan with the strips of zest, the sugar, cinnamon stick, the strawberries and the chopped pear and peach. Bring to the boil and cook for 1 minute. Pour into a 2-litre jug (2-quart pitcher) with the brandy and Cointreau, stir with a wooden spoon and put in the fridge to chill until completely cold.

Stir the chilled mixture again and then pour 3 Tbsp into each glass. Top up with the fizzy cava, serve with a mint leaf and enjoy it while it lasts.

Secondly (and, yes, we're erring towards a more American-esque brunch item), we think sticky, yummy wings are a thing of beauty to be enjoyed with pals. Hence why we're all about Omar Allibhoy's citrussy sweet recipe...

Alitas de Pollo a la Miel y Limon
Chicken Wings with Lemon and Honey Dressing

Omar Allibhoy Recipes - Chicken Wings

'I am yet to meet someone who doesn’t like chicken wings. Traditionally this recipe was made using the whole chicken, however it is so much more shareable when made with wings.'

SERVES 4
400g (14oz) Chicken Wings
1 Lemon
3 tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
4 sprigs Fresh Thyme
1 head of Garlic, cut in half
A pinch of sweet Pimenton (sweet smoked paprika)
3 tbsp. Honey
2 tbsp. chopped Fresh Coriander (cilantro) leaves
Sea Salt and freshly ground Black Pepper

Bring a pan of water to the boil, add the chicken wings and boil for 5 minutes. Remove and drain on kitchen paper for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, zest the lemon, halve it and squeeze out the juice, but don’t throw the rest of it away. Heat the oil in a frying pan over a high heat. Add the thyme sprigs, chicken wings, squeezed lemon halves and the garlic and fry for a couple of minutes on each side. Sprinkle the Pimenton over the chicken and after 10 seconds drizzle the lemon juice and honey into the pan. Season with salt and pepper.

Continue to sauté the chicken until cooked through, allowing the liquid to reduce while making sure the wings are fully coated in the glaze. Add the lemon zest right at the end as it turns bitter if added too early and loses its fragrance quite quickly.

Sprinkle with the chopped coriander and sea salt before serving.

And finally, brunch isn't brunch without eggs, right? But these Omar Allibhoy baked eggs are so easy that you won't spend the entire time faffing about trying not to break yolks. Plus, it looks pretty spectacular. Your friends will be Instagramming your efforts for weeks.

Huevos a la Flamenca
Baked Eggs with Ham in Tomato Sauce

Omar Allibhoy Recipes - Baked Eggs

'This traditional Andalusian dish can be prepared in a snip and is ideal for chucking in whatever ingredients you happen to have in the fridge – plenty of veggies, a bit of ham (bacon or chorizo) and eggs. Just a few staples thrown together.'

SERVES 4 AS A TAPA

300g (2 cups fresh or 2 ½  cups frozen) Peas
300g (10.oz) Asparagus or 1 Red or Green (Bell) Pepper, chopped
50ml (3 ½ tbsp) Olive Oil
2 Garlic Cloves, thinly sliced
1 Medium Onion, finely chopped
4 slices Serrano Ham or
1 Chorizo Sausage, chopped
1 x 400-g tin (scant 2 cups) chopped (diced) Tomatoes
A pinch of sugar
1 tsp. sweet Pimenton (sweet smoked paprika)
1 tsp. hot Pimenton (hot smoked paprika)
1 tbsp. finely chopped Fresh Parsley, plus a little extra to garnish
4 eggs (or 8 if you are really hungry)
Salt and freshly ground
Black pepper
Bread, to serve

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4. Prepare a saucepan with boiling water and add the peas, asparagus and a pinch of salt. Boil for 2 minutes, then drain and rinse with cold water to stop the vegetables from cooking. Set aside.

Put the olive oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Add the garlic and fry for a few seconds before adding, the chopped onion and the ham or chorizo. Cook for about 5 minutes and then add the asparagus and peas.

Cook for a further 5 minutes before adding the chopped tomatoes, sugar, sweet pimenton, hot pimenton and a pinch of salt (don’t over season at this point as the ham or chorizo will release more salt when baking). Cook it for 10 minutes over a low heat. Add the parsley.

Pour into a medium ovenproof dish or 4 individual dishes, crack the eggs over the top and season. Bake for 7–8 minutes or until the egg is cooked to your liking.

Garnish with a little finely chopped fresh parsley and serve with good bread.

NOTE
Duck eggs work really well in this dish; they have that extra bit of flavour and, as we know, size does matter.

Street Style Photography 101: How To Get The Perfect Shot

Street Style Photography Tips

Street Style Photography Tips

Fashion shows are magical - the models, the clothes, the music, the FROW - but, if we’re honest, it’s outside the shows where the #fashioninspo really happens.

Street style. That’s what it’s all about these days. Watching the fashionistas twirling and working it for the hoards of street style photographers is a sight to behold. Peacocking at its very best.

It’s a fashion week highlight for the street style stars (and us) but what’s it like to be behind the camera?

We spoke to street style photographer Timur Emek to get the lowdown on being in the scrum and what it takes to get the perfect shot.

Street Style Photography Tips

Talk us through an average day at fashion week.
On a normal day I would get up at 7.30AM to sort my plan for that day, find out where the first location is, and where I can find the space to shoot the first show outside. From then, I go with the flow from show to show, and find people who inspire me. In between shows there will be personal shoots scheduled, so I will break up the street style shooting with those. By the end of the day - as soon as the natural light is gone - I will finish and head back to my hotel. That’s when the second part of the job begins, and I’ll start to edit all the pictures I took that day.

The best thing about shooting street style?
I really enjoy the freedom that comes with shooting outside as a street style photographer; you are quite independent and able to pick and choose who you shoot, when and how. I also like the authenticity of street style. I get a buzz from shooting in the street because it is so much more realistic than the catwalk. Of course some pictures will be posed but most are just candid. I like to think that this brings the audience closer to fashion than a runway show.

Street Style Photography Tips

And the worst thing?
It can be quite challenging to create the shot you want when there are large crowds who want to snap selfies with the models. Sometimes this can create a nice shot to show just how popular some of these fashion bloggers are now, and how far they’ve come. But often it can just make it harder to place the outfit in its environment if you can’t show a clear background.

Are you pals with the other street style photographers?
Yes, we mostly get on. It’s great to get other photographers’ opinions or their take on a photo. Sometimes it might be that they see something you missed or vice versa that you can take inspiration from next time.

Best celebrity to shoot for street style?
I have loved shooting street style with Alessandra Ambrosio in recent seasons. She has this effortless ability to look chic in absolutely everything, but she also works really hard to help you get ‘that shot’.

Street Style Photography Tips

Favourite street style star?
I love Chiara Ferragni’s look, she is one of the first bloggers I started shooting street style with, and since then we have a very loyal relationship. I can rely on her for beautiful fashion shots and she can rely on me to take great photos of her - it’s an easy relationship where we help each other.

Bloggers have changed the fashion scene – and I think for the better. Fashion is now more accessible and comes alive on the streets with these personalities.

Favourite models for post-show street style?
I love working with Candice Swanepoel. She has a fantastic personality which she conveys easily through the camera. Again, she looks great in everything and has a warmth about her which you can see in her photographs.

Read more: Candice Swanepoel's beauty tips

What makes a perfect street style shoot?
When I’m shooting street style I always look for colours first, and then the structure; it’s a good combination of colours and nice cuts. For me, less is more when it comes to street style. These images cannot be staged in the same way as catwalk images, you will be lucky to capture an unplanned moment which conveys something special. I try to create a shot which emanates beauty in the overall frame, so it’s not just about what the model is wearing. I think about the lighting, the environment, what’s going on in the background, the angles and poses. I want to create something striking each time.

What makes great personal style?
I look for a person who can wear what they want and not care what anyone else is thinking; these people just own the street. I like to see a bit of attitude. I also like how people use colours to show their personality. A person could be stood still and be showing no emotion, but could be wearing the brightest colours, and you just know that person knows exactly who they are.

Why street style photography?
It wasn’t a conscious decision, I suddenly found myself immersed into that new style of photography while I was on a trip to New York. I fell in love with the immediacy and candidness of it. Street style allows you to capture uniquely-put-together outfits in different environments that make them look genius.

London, Paris, New York or Milan: which is your favourite?
I don’t have a real favourite; it’s too difficult to choose as they all have their own unique charm and are special in different ways. Sometimes I do feel that Paris is the place that epitomises the fashion world (see lots of lovely Paris Fashion Week street style photos here); it’s the city where everything comes together - the city, the people and the atmosphere. To me, it’s the most beautiful city in the world, and this beauty adds something extra and everyone can feel it. Suddenly everything looks more elegant.

Street Style Photography 101: How To Get The Perfect Shot

Alesha Dixon As You've Never Seen Her Before

‘When I look back at pictures now, I’m like, what on earth were we thinking. But at the time, it really worked and was of the moment,’ says Alesha Dixon, reminiscing about her Mis-Teeq wardrobe days. Together with bandmates Sabrina Washington and Su-Elise Nash, the popstar racked up three top-ten, double-platinum albums and seven consecutive top-ten singles across Europe. And, of course, there were the outfits. ‘I’ve got a wardrobe full of stage clothes because I think they’re sentimental. I don’t think I could wear them now, but I definitely want to keep them as memorabilia. I still have the denim catsuit from the Be With Me video.’

Post Mis-Teeq (they split in 2005), it would have been really easy for Alesha to step out of the spotlight and enjoy the royalties from their floor-filler hits, such as Scandalous. But instead, she set about building her own career. After winning the glitter disco ball in Strictly Come Dancing in 2007 (she still has one of the highest average scores of any contestant to ever take part in the show), she released a solo album that earned her a Brit nomination. Next, she joined the Strictly judging panel, replacing Arlene Phillips, which led to the BBC being accused of ageism. But her bubbly personality and genuine advice quickly won over the viewers. Unsurprisingly, three years later, Simon Cowell poached her to join him on Britain’s Got Talent, saying, ‘She’s feisty, opinionated and knows what it’s like to be a competitor and judge.’ Here, she talks walk-in wardrobes, trolling and being business savvy. Plus, check out the video below to see Alesha show off her goat training skills. Yep, you read that right...

What did you splurge on with your first pay cheque?
‘Me and my fellow Mis-Teeq ladies would have a 15-minute window spare in a crazy day, so it was like a supermarket sweep. As a young girl, I never really had a great wardrobe. I was always borrowing friends’ clothes. And so the opportunity to go shopping with that freedom was a really big deal. I loved it.’

What’s your wardrobe like now?
‘When I refurbished my house, I made sure to create a sort of dream walk-in wardrobe. In my old house, I always used to struggle for storage space or couldn’t find certain items of clothing. So now I have it in sections, like my jeans in one part, my Britain’s Got Talent stuff in another.’

People get very opinionated on Twitter about what you wear. Do you read the comments?
‘I’m really laid-back about it. I don’t know if it’s my age or the fact I’ve just been doing it so long, but I’ve got a good perspective on what’s important in life. I think, when people watch the show, they want to see statement pieces and they want to see us having fun with fashion. And I always like to be slightly on the more risk-taking side.’

Simon gets slagged off a lot about those jeans. Do you ever try to help him out by offering fashion guidance?
‘I don’t give him any stick or any advice. He knows what he likes and it works for him. David has lovely Tom Ford suits made for him and he always has an interesting tie. But I do feel for them because I think, “Oh how boring, putting on another suit every week”.’

Tell us about the record label you set up…
‘The music industry comes with a lot of politics and a lot of games. So in a way I am the underdog because I don’t have a huge machine. But at the same time, I have artistic freedom. I can make a record on my own terms. And I have that personal sense of achievement. I’ve done it all myself.’

How do you think the music industry has changed since you were starting out in Mis-Teeq?
‘I don’t even think they had MySpace when we started out. Back in those days, it felt like you had to work a lot harder to get recognition. Nowadays, artists can create their own hype. They have a quicker way of connecting with the public. For us, we had to get DJs to believe in our music and play it, and then hope it would be picked up by the bigger stations.’

Have you always been quite savvy when it comes to the business side of the industry?
‘Once Mis-Teeq became too big for us to manage ourselves, we hired Elton John’s manager. I’ve always been very hands-on because I’ve seen how artists get taken advantage of. It’s very risky and nothing is guaranteed. I think I still have the same passion that I had as an 18 year old wanting to get into the industry, but now I make smarter choices.’

Let’s talk image. What’s the secret to your healthy glow?
‘I have a trainer, but I don’t work out religiously. For me, I would love to exercise twice a week, but it depends on my schedule. When I do work out, I do a lot of body conditioning stuff, like lunges and squats. Performing on stage is definitely where I get my heart rate up.’

Any post-workout beauty essentials we need to know about?
‘Coconut oil. I use it on my skin and on my daughter’s hair. I also really love Sisley products. They’re the one thing I really indulge in. But I do try to keep it simple when I’m not working.
I get made up quite a lot for my job, so when I’m at home, I kind of do the complete opposite.’

Naked selfies, mesh clothing, and… diamond grills?

Kim Kardashian West’s sheer outfit at PFW’s Balmain show just wasn’t enough for the outrageous social media star — neither was the topless selfie she shared the day before. In Kardashian West’s latest ‘gram, the entrepreneur shows off her new diamond accessory alongside an older diamond accessory, her Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring. Kim being Kim, she also made sure to capture a large swath of cleavage in the cropped shot.

A Cynic's Guide To #Swiddleston: We Break Down What Went On

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston

Into it, or over it?

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston: hands up who saw that one coming? No, didn’t think so, but it looks like this relationship has run its course - for real.

After THOSE beach photos (who wears brogues on the beach, really?), a lot happened in a very short space of time. To help you make sense of this unlikely celebrity relationship, we break down what happened – and when – with Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston (plus a recurring role from Calvin Harris).

30th September: Are Taylor and Calvin talking again? After that high-profile split (and seemingly bad blood between the ex-couple), we wouldn't have been surprised if Taylor and Calvin were keeping a distance from each other. But according to sources, they're still in casual contact over text. Interesting...

18th September: Speaking to People at the 2016 Emmy Awards, Tom says that he and Taylor are still friends post-split, while rumours swirl that he's interested in his presenting partner, Priyanka Chopra.

7th September: Ah! It looks like there's a reason things have been so quiet on the Hiddleswift front... they've only gone and broken up. According to sources, Taylor was confused by Tom wanting to make the relationship so public, and wondered what his true intentions were. Three months of summer lovin', Hiddleswiftly over...

25th August: We've been gone for a while, but welcome back to the ultimate Hiddleswift timeline. Things have been pretty low-key for the couple who acually managed to spend some time apart over the past month (with a few flying visits inbetween), but rumour has it Taylor and Tom had their first big bust-up. The cause of the argument? Not being able to spend enough time together, apparently. He's filming, she's, well, in Rhode Island, it's not unbelievable.

23rd July: With things having gone a little quiet on the TayTo front, it was up to ex Calvin Harris to keep the drama ticking along. Celebrating Jennifer Lopez's birthday in Las Vegas, Calvin was pictured hanging out with J-Lo, French Montana and only the recent thorn in Taylor Swift's side, Kim Kardashian. Yep, it appears that camp Kimye and camp Calvin are showing a united front to everyone with a vested interest in the ongoing saga.

17th July: Just when we thought the drama couldn't get any more real, Kim Kardashian takes it upon herself to post a video that appears to confirm that Taylor Swift did in fact pre-approve a controversial line from hubby Kanye West's song Famous ('I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous'). Back in February following the song's release, Kanye responded to the outcry condemning the lyric, claiming that Taylor knew about the line, and was happy for him to include it in the song - despite Taylor's representatives apparently saying the exact opposite. Taylor's people 'cautioned' Kanye, stating:

'Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single Famous on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous’.'

Hmm. Well, it looks as though Kanye DID make Taylor aware, and Kim K didn't want people hating on Yeez any more. See the below...

It didn't take long for team Taylor to respond. Taking to Instagram, Tay posted the below:

13th July: Calvin Harris takes to Twitter to have a bit of a bitch about Taylor revealing that she in fact co-wrote his smash hit This Is What You came For. In one of said tweets, Calvers makes reference to the alleged spat between Tay and ex-BFF Katy Perry. The internet goes haywire. The hashtag #TaylorSwiftPartyIsOver starts trending. K-Pez wades into the fray. All trés entertaining really.

11th July: Oh god, THAT totally awkward interview on Australia's Gold Coast. Tom sidelined by a reporter. 'Is Taylor Swift 'The One'?'. Tom bumbling around for answers. Just. Awful.

7th July 2016: Oh. They're in Australia now. Seriously, are they on some weird month-long first date?

6th July 2016: TayTo do all-navy-everything at LAX Airport

Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift

4th July 2016, but embargoed by Queen Taylor until 5th July: FINALLY! After all those candid paparazzi shots (suspicious that they all came from the same paparazzi agency, us? Never...) Taylor and Tom have made things Insta-official with a sweet (or kind of staged?) couple snap. We're talking Taylor draped all over Tom's lap, holding hands and looking longingly at each other. There's also Blake and Ryan failing to look at the camera and Tay's BFF Brit with her hubby, Ben. Considering the picture was first posted on Brit's page, it's not how we thought we'd see Hiddleswift make their Insta-debut - but it happened.

Later on 4th July 2016: Tom was noticeably absent from THIS telling Instagram. Can we also question why this is the first post from Taylor in two weeks?! Normally she's not shy about sharing pictures of her loved-up larks on Instagram... In fact, we have 29 questions about Taylor Swift's 4th July picture

4th July 2016: Remember last year when Taylor was all swan inflatables with Calvin Harris? Oh how things change... This year, TayTay and her celeb squad (Blake Lively, Ruby Rose, Karlie Kloss, HAIM, Gigi Hadid...) frolicked near Taylor's Rhode Island abode, and Tom Hiddleston was sporting some particularly, umm, confident attire. Picture a white vest top with 'I [Heart] TS' on it. Plus a felt-tip heart tattoo with the initial T on his upper arm. Oh wait, you don't have to picture it, because it happened, and you can see it below. The InStyle cynic wants so much to believe this relationship is real, but a) would be creeped out if Tom's behaviour was for real and b) really just thinks it's all a big publicity stunt.

29th June 2016: Squad member Ruby Rose is having her say on the Hiddleswift drama, calling us all out for speculating on Taylor getting with Tom so soon after Calvin. Even the InStyle cynic has time for what Ruby has to say (although she still has her questions about this 'relationship')

27th June 2016: TayTo are now in Rome! And she's making a case for the yellow sundress. Are these two surgically attached at the hand?

26th June 2016: Taylor flew to England to go for dinner with Tom's mum, and even upped sticks for a day in the country - wax jacket, wellies and all. Tay and Tom even went for a romantic stroll along a Suffolk beach (this is becoming something of a signature for the pair…), which was conveniently captured on camera by the paparazzi.

23rd June 2016: Hiddleswift are spotted smooching and hand-holding at dinner in Nashville.

22nd June 2016: Calvin Harris RE-follows Taylor Swift on social media, as well as his ex, Rita Ora – what does it all mean?! Is it just for headlines?! The InStyle cynic says – probably.

22nd June 2016: You know things are serious when you introduce him to the squad… Hiddleswift were spotted shaking it at Selena Gomez’s Revival tour. The InStyle cynic wonders if these very public outings are planned.

17th June 2016: Calvin Harris steps out in Yeezys. DRAMA. Is he supporting Taylor’s long-time frenemy Kanye West? Or does he just like the shoes?

16th June 2016: TayTo are pictured jumping into a private plane together. How swish!

16th June 2016: Calvin Harris says ‘it’s all good’ in reference to the burgeoning Swiddleston relationship.

15th June 2016: Calvin Harris exhibits classic post-split behaviour on social media and deletes all traces of Tay from his account. He even unfollowed her (gasp).

14th June 2016: The Sun breaks exclusive pictures of Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston getting cosy on some Rhode Island rocks. We’re talking holding hands, Tom’s jacket on Taylor’s shoulders, selfies and even #Swiddleston K I S S I N G.

Now, let’s think about this one. Taylor Swift gets slut-shamed a lot for what is actually pretty normal dating behaviour, and that’s wrong. But we do have a couple of questions about Hiddleswift’s debut…

1. How did the paparazzi get so close, considering it’s private property?
2. How come Taylor and Tom managed to pack in all that cutesy couple behaviour (jacket sharing, hand holding, smooching) in one casual afternoon date?
3. Does Tom Hiddleston want a bigger presence in America so he can be Bond?
4. Did Taylor know that Kim Kardashian’s interview was coming out that weekend? (…yes)
5. Did she want to eclipse Calvin’s music video release for This Is What You Came For

(Questions courtesy of InStyle’s Swiddleston sceptic)

2nd June 2016: Calvin tweets to confirm the break-up, writing ‘The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect’. Taylor re-tweeted. How 2016.

1st June 2016: Taylor and Calvin are rumoured to have split, but both parties keep quiet on the news. Is this why Taylor flew solo on the Met Gala red carpet?

2nd May 2016: Taylor and Tom are pictured getting down together at the Met Gala. Should we have taken their soundtrack, Crazy In Love, as a hint?! If you look closely, Tom does get quite handsy…

Oh, Taylor. If all this has put you in the mood to throwback to Taylor Swift's boyfriend history, be my guest...

‘One year to the day after the completion of principal photography on Bill Condon's Beauty and the Beast, here is your very first look at Dan Stevens as the Prince/Beast’

‘These two, just standing there staring... Here's a fine piece of concept art of Ewan McGregor as Lumière and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth. These designs are close but may not be final... ;D’

We've also been treated to our first look at Belle's first costume (no, not that iconic yellow dress yet), with Disney releasing this sketch of Emma Watson's blue dress. Thoughts?
