The Best Unexpected Dance Routines That Totally Blew Our Minds

Margaret Qualley in the new Kenzo World video

Margaret Qualley in the new Kenzo World video

KENZO

Haven’t seen the new Kenzo World advert yet? We spent most of yesterday absolutely hooked so advise that you grab some headphones, like, NOW, and take a look.

Why is it so brilliant, you ask? Well firstly, this is an advert for a fragrance! None of your usual whimsical fields of flowers, kissing couples, or speeding motorbikes. No, this is directed by Spike Jonze (more amazing examples of his work to come), has an incredible original soundtrack by Sam Spiegel, and stars actress and dancer Margaret Qualley being an absolute boss. Seriously, her dance routine, facial expressions and somersaults Simone Biles would be proud of have us in awe of her. It’s totally bonkers, but it’s AMAZING!

The best thing about it? That dance routine comes out of nowhere. It’s just not what you think is going to happen at all. Which got us thinking…what other unexpected dance routines have we loved over the years? Leave those headphones in guys, there’s more to come…

Weapon of Choice, by Fatboy Slim

Thought the style of that Kenzo ad was familiar? That’s because it was directed by Spike Jonze, the very same who directed Christopher Walken in Fatboy Slim’s Weapon of Choice music video. Literally can’t get enough of watching this one.

‘Dancing Man’ Guinness commercial

Rewind to 1995 and remember that unexpected dance routines are nothing new in the world of advertising. Though this chap isn’t quite as skilled as Margaret Qualley, he’s just as entertaining.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 500 Days of Summer

Granted, it IS a pretty quirky film, but when we first watched this we didn’t know this dance scene was on the cards, especially the Snow White moment when a cartoon bird lands on his shoulder.

Lonely Boy, by Black Keys

My train of thought when I first watched this one: ‘Who’s this guy? This doesn’t look like a music video. He’s just standing there. What’s going to happen? Oh wait, he’s dancing! What next? He’s literally going to just dance on the spot for the whole song? Amazing.’

Tom Cruise in Risky Business

We’ve all seen it before but it wouldn’t be right to write an article about unexpected dance routines and leave out the one with the sock slide.

Chandelier, by Sia

When an 11 year-old girl appears in a music video in a blonde wig, you really REALLY don’t expect her to be as mind-blowingly good as Maddie Ziegler, who went on to star in a further three Sia music videos.

Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder

It’s weird that Tom Cruise appears in this list twice, but there you go. Here he is doing some sinister moves as the character Les Grosman. Ew.

Since I Left You, by The Avalanches

A music video with a dancing coal miner AND girls in 1980s-style lycra? The absolute epitome of the word ‘unexpected’.

Napoleon Dynamite

The way he carries on after the music stops and no-one claps gets us every time.

It’s Oh So Quiet, by Bjork

What you have to remember about this is that there was a first time you saw this video and heard this song. It’s not unexpected now, but it was once! Oh, and it’s another genius video from Spike Jonze, too.

Slumdog Millionaire

Why not have a massive Bollywood-style dance routine at the end of the film we say?

Have we missed any? Let us know in the comments below!

Game Of Thrones Season 7: What Do We Know So Far?

Game of Thrones season 7 is on the way, and surprise surprise, fans are already in a bit of a flap. Why? Well, firstly there was the news that The Game of Thrones release date would be delayed — all we know is that the seventh season of the HBO show won't be screening until the summer of 2017 — and if those chatty cast members are to be believed, the new series of Game of Thrones is going to be a belter.

Release dates, cast, rumours: here's what we know about about Game of Thrones season 7 so far...

Game of Thrones season 7 release date?
There has been no official release date for Game of Thrones season 7, however it was confirmed that there would be a delay to the rumoured launch, and (before you have a tantrum) the reasoning behind it does kind of make sense. Speaking about why the HBO show wouldn't be making it's usual Spring release, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss confirmed that the delay had more to do with weather conditions rather than deliberately make the fans wait:

'We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' - and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes any more.'

'So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.'

Apparently, filming won't even wrap until February 2017. Crikey, talk about how only good things come to those who wait....

Game of Thrones season 7 cast?
We know that Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Lena Headey (Cersei), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) are all reportedly signed up for a seventh season, however, how long any of them will last is anyone's guess.

See More: Sophie Turner's Incredible Game of Thrones Style Transformation

And of course, there have been lots of rumours - the most exciting being that Khal Drogo might be returning to the show. Yes, let's pray that happens. There are also unconfirmed reports that HBO have cast a number of new roles, all with mysterious codenames (think Lady #1, etc) to throw superfans off the scent. So yes, in true GoT style, anything could happen. Isn't it exciting?

Game of Thrones season 7 - how many episodes?
Series 7 will contain 7 episodes, meaning that season 7 and the final Game of Thrones season 8 will be shorter than regular seasons.

Game of Thrones season 7 - what else do we know?
Well, cast members have been teasing us with their tricksy social media accounts for ages now, and every week there seems to be yet another Game of Thrones rumour breaking the internet. Most recently, Maisie Williams took to Twitter to make some rather bold statements about the Game of Thrones season 7 script, which sent fans into a tweet meltdown.

And then, Kit Harington made some comments about the new season to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that in his opinion (at that point in time, he hadn't yet read the script) things were about to get very 'dark' for the characters.

'I think it's going to get very bleak before if there is a happy ending.'

How To Curl Hair So It Looks Epic, Not 80s

Stop the press! Curly hair is back. Ok, we might have overreacted, but here at InStyle HQ we’re pretty excited about curly hair finally making a comeback. From Mica Arganaraz and Ari Wetsphal (aka our curly girl model crushes) to Pixie Lott, everyone’s getting in on the action. But if your natural ‘do is annoyingly straight (2001 was a great time for you guys), then here’s how to curl hair so it looks epic, not 80s.

    •    Start with wet hair. After you’ve washed it, take a palm size amount of mousse (yup, that’s made a comeback too) and run it through the lengths and ends of your hair.

Why? Because… iI helps the curls keep their shape without dousing them in hairspray which is a hooray for our hair and the environment.

READ ALSO: What Actually Is Plopping? Everything You Need To Know

    •    Dry your hair using a hairdryer with a diffuser attached.

Why? Because… The prongs on the diffuser will move your hair while it’s being heated and dried which means more texture and more texture means better curls.

READ ALSO: 38 Curly Hair Problems Straight-Haired Babes Will NEVER Understand

    •    Spritz heat protection spray through the lengths and ends of your hair.

Why? Because… You’re about to use two different heated tools on your hair which means you need to protect it from possible heat damage. Dry, frazzled curls are not cool.

    •    Take an inch wide barrel hair tong and curl most of your hair, leaving out random sections.

Why? Because… We’re trying to get curly hair people (duh!) but also the tong will create a uniform curl but we want ours to look natural and effortless so leaving random sections will stop you looking like a Victorian child.

READ ALSO: Curly Hairstyles: How To Style Up Your Curls Like An A-List Pro

    •    Take a smaller tong and curl the leftover sections and any extra pieces you think looks a bit neat.

Why? Because… A smaller tong will help create a tighter curl which will create a more natural looking, varied texture. Pulling out sections to curl again makes for a messier, more casual looking curl.

    •    Spritz texture spray all over your hair and use your hands to work it through the curls.

Why? Because… It’ll give your curls extra grip which means they’ll stay curly longer. Run your hands through to break up the curls for a mussier cool girl texture that’s not too neat.

And voila! You’re now officially a curly girl! You can thank us later…

Poldark Series 2: 10 Reasons We Can’t Wait For Sunday Night

Aidan Turner

So brooding.

Poldark is back on our screens this weekend, with ten new episodes of heavy fieldwork (we hope), romantic entanglements and a whole lot of swooning. Your Sunday night just got a lot more exciting.

Read More: The autumn TV shows we can’t wait to watch

Here are 10 reasons why we can’t wait for Aidan Turner, Eleanor Tomlinson and co to grace our screens again…

1. Aidan Turner is BACK. Storyline aside, Aidan is a pretty big reason why we keep coming back to Poldark every week, so here’s hoping for more shirtless scything.

2. The show will pick up exactly where we left off last series, with [SPOILER ALERT] Demelza trying to cope after the death of Julia, and Ross having been arrested for murder. They’ve got no money, no company and, almost, no hope against the backdrop of the French Revolution.

3. There’ll be more of that Ross/Elizabeth tension, as well as drama between Ross and George Warleggan.

4. Aidan has said that the series will be ‘huge’, with massive arcs for the characters and executive producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff calling series 2 ‘another fantastic rollercoaster ride’.

5. The second series will have 10 episodes, 2 more than the first. That’s two more hours of Aidan Turner and we’re definitely not complaining.

Read More: 7 times Aidan Turner made us swoon

6. Poldark series 2 was made with blood, sweat and tears. Aidan revealed that in filming a scene where he lifts Eleanor Tomlinson out of the water, he dropped her in the water and smacked his head off a boat. Ouch.

7. There are new characters. John Nettles, who you’ll probably know from Midsomer Murders, is joining the cast as a wealthy landowner.

8. You get to see the real West Country coast. Because that’s what we’re watching it for.

9. A third series of Poldark has been confirmed for 2017. No matter what happens in the finale of Poldark series 2, we know the cast will be back to tie up those loose ends, with more ‘twists and turns for these much loved characters’.

10. It’s another excuse to cosy up and stay in on a Sunday night.

Stranger Things Season 2: There Will Be 'Justice For Barb'

Justice For Barb

Hands up who wants justice for Barb

While it hasn't yet been confirmed that Netflix show Stranger Things will get a second season, series creators have fuelled the series 2 rumour mill by addressing the issue that has plagued Stranger Things fans since the show's last episode...

'We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb,' Matt Duffer revealed during an interview with IGN. 'People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it.'

So, does this mean some screen time will be spent on it? Does this mean Stranger Things season 2 might just happen? Matt Duffer doesn't confirm either way, but has admitted that 'it’s not a second season as much as a sequel...' And this may finally mean some much-wanted justice for Barb.

Read More: 11 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Stranger Things Star Millie Bobby Brown

Now, in case we've geeked out completely and you haven't the foggiest what we're talking about *spoiler alert* one key character dies rather gruesomely during the first season of Stranger Things, and apparently, no one seemed to care. Yep, Barb, bespectacled BFF of Nancy, lover of mom jeans and moon boots, kind of came to a sticky end in the Upside Down with no one really giving a shit, and fans of the Molly Ringwald-esque teen are clamouring on social media for Barb to return - or at least, have her grisly death addressed by the show's creators.

However, as much as the Barb memes/dolls/tributes circulated and fans questioned whether or not she was actually dead (I mean, she did look pretty dead...) Matt Duffer explained that his not dealing with the whole Barb issue wasn't a slight on her character - it was more a matter of time.

'It’s not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’, he explained. 'Season One actually takes place over the course of six or seven days – it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.'

So there you have it folks, a 'hypothetical season 2' could already be in the pipeline. But before you start brushing off those bottle-cap glasses in preparation for Barb's triumphant return, we've got some bad news. Matt Duffer has hinted that our gal may not be returning to the show:

'I can’t see it happening,' came Matt’s response when asked by IGN. 'But Barb will not be forgotten.'

A sad day for Barb fans everywhere...

How To Wear A Shirt Dress Without Looking Like A Square

Shirt dresses are up there with wrap dresses for potential squareability. Worn the wrong way, say — over some jersey leggings, they are the sartorial equivalent of a bumbag. However, done right they can be a pretty feasible option for this weirdly changeable weather.

Every morning, after the usual multi-snooze and shower, we’re faced with our wardrobes and working out what, judging by the weather on our iPhone, we should wear. While summer dresses feel too childish and scandily clad for work, anything providing more coverage makes us break into a sweat on any form of public transport. That’s why the shirt dress is our new favourite thing.

Here’s how to wear it without looking prim and Prarie-fied…

1. Trouser Club

An easy way to cool up a shirt dress is by wearing it over matching trousers, or not matching as long as they’re wide leg, flowy and preferably not black.

2. Go Traditional

If you want to go for a more feminine look, embrace the shirt dress but keep things cool rather than bookish. Harley Viera-Newton is Insta-inspo for getting this right.

Read: How to wear a slip dress

3. Oversize Me

The simplest way to wear the shirt dress is classically oversized with a pair of ankle boots. Go pointed to lengthen your legs and give the look a bit of an edge, and if you want a heel make sure they’re a sock boot shape.

4. Sheer Finish

It’s almost impossible to look prim in anything sheer or lace, so a shirt shape worn over a body or slip is a fun party option.

5. Over-The-Knee

Obviously over-the-knee boots can be a bit of a NSFW option, but the shirt dress balances them out and makes the whole look pretty temperature flexible.

6. Underwear As Underwear

The celebrity fashion elite are all about visible bras right now — it’s basically all Kendall Jenner wears anymore, and Chrissy Teigen took any Prairie vibes out of her shirt dress with a black lace bra.

How To Talk To A Woman Wearing Headphones? Err, Don't?

So, how do you talk to a girl wearing headphones? That is the question pissing off the internet right now, and for very good reason.

Now, while that question does seem harmless enough, the context in which it's been used has been enough to cause social media outrage across all platforms, with many women taking to Twitter to vent. So why are people so darn vexed? Well, basically this story involves a man, talking to other men about what he thinks women want. And well, turns out he was a bit wrong.

Dating and relationship expert Dan Bacon's blog post on his website The Modern Man entitled 'How To Talk to a Woman Who is Wearing Headphones' outlines a problem that apparently many modern lotharios are facing right now - you know, the one where they can't potentially chat up a lady if she's (yes, you've guessed it) wearing headphones.

'These days, many women walk around playing with a smartphone or tablet device and are often wearing headphones and listening to music at the same time,' Dan points out.

'Yet, that doesn’t mean you can’t talk to them.'

He then goes on to offer 5 tips n' tricks for approaching headphone-wearing lady in question (who is probably just out trying to enjoy her post-work jog) and engage in a conversation with her. Regarder...

I don't know about anyone else, but the first tip concerns me slightly. If I was out jogging, or walking, wearing headphones and a strange man (even if he looked like Jamie Dornan) unexpectedly stood in front of me, albeit one metre away, I'm sorry but I'd be reaching for the pepper spray. The guy would be on the ground before he'd even had the chance to flash that 'confident, easy-going smile'.

Plus, does anyone else find the rest of language used to describe headphone-wearing lady as mildly patronising? Come on ladies, Dan wants us to 'fully understand' what men mean. And, 'Acknowledging the Awkwardness'? Awkward? Or, just a bit rude? I won't even begin to start on the proposed role-play conversation that follows...

Did Dan Bacon mean to brown off headphone-wearing women the world over? Probably not, but as you can imagine, his 'advice' hasn't gone down too well, and many female folk have taken to the Internet to shake a collective fist.

And to further exacerbate the problem, according to Dan, us single girls are more likely to stop whatever it is we're doing, mid-Rihanna, to let a man engage with us sans headphones.

'However, if a woman wearing headphones is single and hoping to meet a boyfriend (or even a new lover), she will usually be happy to take off her headphones to give you an opportunity to create a spark with her.'

Wow. Single ladies everywhere, perhaps this is where we've been going wrong all this time.

So, what's happened in the aftermath? Dan Bacon has remained pretty quiet about the media backlash he's created, and hasn't yet taken the post down. So, if you want to read the full blog entry, you'll find it here

Calvin Harris Stripped Down To His Pants & The Internet Can’t Take It

Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris is stripping down to his undies – and the Internet has absolutely zero chill about it.

The single (and clearly ready to mingle) DJ took to Instagram on Tuesday to wish his manager, Mark Gillespie, a happy birthday – but that's not all he did!

The This Is What You Came For hitmaker, and ex-boyfriend of Taylor Swift, also took the opportunity to show off his ripped physique and we (along with everyone on the Internet) are forever thankful.

Read More: The definitive timeline of Taylor Swift's boyfriends

The revealing photo has been hit with a plethora of comments which included many fans getting hot under the collar. Harris didn't acknowledge the fact that he's in his undies, captioning the photo, ‘Happy birthday to my manager @gillespiemark I love u’.

This isn't the first time the artist is baring it all on social media. In May, Harris posted a now-deleted shirtless photo on Instagram showing off his rock-hard abs and biceps. A month later the DJ proved he was putting in some serious overtime at the gym when his friend Emil Nava posted a bro-tastic photo of Harris and some friends posing in Speedos.

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 Launches In Spectacular Style

Strictly Come Dancing Contestants At The Launch

Strictly Come Dancing 2016 is just around the corner, and we can't wait for this year's slew of celebrity contestants, all looking to engage in a bit of ballroom battle.

The Strictly Come Dancing contestant roll-call is coming in thick and fast, and we're excited to see which star will be paired with which professional Strictly dancer... Anton Du Beke (mum's favourite) in particular. So, how much has been revealed about the new series of Strictly? Here's what we know thus far...

When does Strictly Come Dancing start?
Strictly Come Dancing starts Saturday 3rd September at 6:50pm on BBC1.

Who are the Strictly Come Dancing presenters?
Dynamic duo Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will be back on Strictly duty, it's been confirmed. Expect plenty of innuendo and impromtu bum-grabbing.

Who are the Strictly Come Dancing judges?
The dream team of Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli are back with the score cards for Strictly 2016.

Who are the Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers?
The Strictly Come Dancing dancers have already been revealed, and there are a mix of familiar faces and new dancers. Old favourites Anton du Beke, Brendan Cole, Joanne Clifton, Karen Clifton, Kevin Clifton, Pasha Kovalev, Natalie Lowe, Oti Mabuse, Janette Manrara, Giovanni Pernice and Aljaž Škorjanec are all returning, together with six new dancers: Ukranian champion Oksana Platero, Spanish dance professional Gorka Marquez, World Champion Katya Jones, and four-time British National Champion Neil Jones - who happens to be married to Katya.

Who are the Strictly Come Dancing contestants?
The line-up is gradually being released, and there are defintely a few wild cards in the bunch...

Ed Balls
The first Strictly celebrity of 2016 was announced on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show this morning - former Member of Parliament Ed Balls (insert 'glitter' as and when appropriate...)

Will Young
Everyone's favourite Pop Idol Will Young will be taking the Strictly dancefloor this season. We excpect great things from this cheeky chappie.

Laura Whitmore
The presenter was announced as the third contestant on Nick Grimshaw's BBC Radio1 show.

Ore Oduba
BBC Sport presenter and ex-Newsround legend Ore Oduba is making a bid for the 2016 Strictly Come Dancing Crown. He's out in Rio 2016 at the moment, so let's hope he picks up a few moves from the locals!

Melvin Odoom
KISSFM's superstar DJ and TV presenter Melvin Odoom is another addition to the Strictly Come Dancing line-up. We reckon Melvin has some pretty sweet moves.

Louise Redknapp
The sixth Strictly contestant to be announced is the lovely Louise Redknapp. FYI, she used to be in '90s girl band Eternal, so we bet she's already got a dance game plan in place!

Danny Mac
Hollyoaks star Danny Mac is swapping the West End for the dancefloor this season, making him the seventh celebrity to join the Strictly Come Dancing line-up. Has he got the moves to win over the judges?

Daisy Lowe
When model Daisy Lowe was announced as the eighth Strictly Come Dancing contestant, we here at team InStyle got proper excited. We expect Daisy to bring some serious style game to the competition this year, plus we bet she's a bit of a secret shimmy queen.

Anastacia
Probably the most exciting Strictly Come Dancing news yet was the announcement that I'm Outta Love singer Anastacia would be joining the show, bringing back all of our noughties goals in fell swoop. Will she be rocking some statement shades on the dancefloor - let's hope so...

Claudia Fragapane
8 year-old team GB gymnast Claudia Fragapane will have to switch up the spandex this fall as it's been confirmed that she'll be the tenth celebrity joining the Strictly Come Dancing team. Fresh off the back of the 2016 Rio Olympics, Claudia will definitely have some skills in the old lift/flip area. Exciting stuff.

Greg Rutherford
Wow, another Olympian thrown into the Strictly Come Dancing mix? Hold the lights! Long jumper and Olympic champion Greg Rutherford has joined the celebrity contestants, and we're super excited to see how he handles the floor. No jumping here Greg.

Greg Rutherford Strictly Come Dancing

Eastender Tameka is famous for playing the outrageous (and totally amazing) Kim Fox on the show, and now we're waiting with baited breath to see how she handles her salsa moves.

Tameka Empson Strictly Come Dancing

Oh Dorian... Birds of a Feather legend is the final celeb contestant to be joining the Strictly Come Dancing crew. Can we hope for an Anton Du Beke match-up? Please Strictly... make it happen.

Leslie Joseph Strictly Come Dancing

Robert Rinder
Star of ITV reality show Judge Rinder will be hoping to lay down some judgement should there be 'murder on the dance floor' (sorry...) on Strictly this season. BFFs with Benedict Cumberbatch, Judge Rinder is already doing quite well in the odds...

Robert Rinder Strictly Come Dancing

Naga Munchetty
BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty could be an instant crowd favourite in the Strictly Come Dancing team, plus she's also a keen golfer, something that may stand well to her in the competition.

What Are The Strictly Come Dancing Odds Looking Like?
As you'd expect, the bookies are already laying odds on who will claim the Strictly crown.

'Claudia Fragapane is definitely going to be the one to beat, but Greg Rutherford should perhaps not be underestimated, said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

With the Strictly line-up confirmed, William Hill make Claudia Fragapane their 7/2 favourite. Greg Rutherford is another team GB athlete and is currently offered at 10/1. Judge Rinder is 16/1, with Leslie Joseph 25/1.

Go Claudia!

10 Tips For Going Naked On A Beach (Like Orlando Bloom)

Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom, naked. It happened.

Orlando Bloom naked on a paddleboard?! It happened, and the internet can’t cope.

On holiday with his current belle Katy Perry in Italy, Orlando, for some inexplicable reason, decided to strip off his swim shorts on the beach, before ferrying Katy across the ocean on a paddleboard.

Read More: #BeachPorn - the beach holiday destinations we're drooling over

In case you haven’t seen the pictures, we’re talking all-out balls to the board full-frontal nudity, in FULL view of anyone who might happen to paddle past. Katy, meanwhile, kept her bikini on. We refer you to the picture above. He even had to shoot his ex Miranda Kerr a text to let her know the pictures were coming out. Her response? 'What were you thinking?!'

Confused? Intrigued? Inspired, even?! If Orlando has left you pondering whether the nudist life is for you, Andrew Welch of the British Naturism organisation says ‘We know that people are far more willing to try social nudity and it’s great to have confirmation that more and more of us are letting go of any hang-ups and are feeling comfortable in the skin we’re in’.

Need a few more pointers before you drop it all? We spoke to lastminute.com for a beginner’s guide on getting your kit off on the beach;

1.     Cover your whole body in high-factor sun cream to avoid an awkward burn
Nobody wants a burnt bum…

2.     Don’t park yourself too close to fellow nudists
Clothes? Forget them. Personal space? Important.

3.     There’s no shame in wrapping up with a towel if the sun gets too hot
We refer you to tip #1

4.     Know and obey the rules of the nudist beach you are visiting
When nakedness is involved, rules are key

5.     Sexy selfies are a no-go so leave your camera at home
Just because everyone is naked, doesn’t mean they want to put it all pver the internet

6.     No PDA allowed
That’s pretty much soft porn

7.     Don’t forget to put your clothes back on when leaving designated nudist areas
…or you might be arrested

8.     Ensure you are actually at a nudist beach before disrobing
Again, or you might be arrested

9.     No staring at others, you’ve seen it all before
Mirrors will do that for you.

10.  Don’t be embarrassed, embrace the freedom
It might be easier said than done, but bodies are TOTALLY normal! Embrace your bits in all their glory.

Selena Gomez Is Taking Time Out To Deal With Her Anxiety And Depression

After traveling the world over the last few months for her Revival World Tour, Selena Gomez is taking a break to take care of herself.

‘As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways’, the singer and actress, 24, tells PEOPLE exclusively in a statement. ‘I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges’.

‘I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues’, she continues.

According to Kenneth M. Farber, the co-CEO and co-president of the Lupus Research Alliance, ‘it is not commonly known that depression, anxiety and panic attacks can be side effects of lupus. We are so proud of Selena for taking care of herself and bringing awareness to this sometimes very misunderstood illness’.

A source close to Gomez tells PEOPLE the break is ‘absolutely not related to alcohol or substance abuse’ and was prompted after she ‘hadn't felt like herself’ over the last couple of months.

‘She decided to clear her calendar for the year in order to have this be her priority for future happiness and didn't want to leave any promoters at bay’, says the source. ‘She feels relieved that she can now make more sense of why she was feeling the way she was and is optimistic about the future’.

Last fall, the star confirmed ongoing rumors she was battling the autoimmune disease, telling Billboard she underwent chemotherapy as treatment during a break she took in 2013 in the midst of her Stars Dance tour.

‘I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're ass-----.' I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again’, Gomez told the publication.

Sophie Morgan Talks Being Broken, Wheelchair Myths & Rio 2016

Sophie Morgan

Sophie Morgan is about to take over Rio 2016

Sophie Morgan doesn’t like the word disabled: ‘My friends say diff-abled, as in differently abled’, she tells me, laughing. ‘It’s a funny term, but it would be nice to redefine it – disabled is focused on what you can’t do. The majority of disabled people enjoy finding out what they can do’.

Paralysed from the chest down after a road accident in 2003, Sophie has gone on to prove exactly what she can do, travelling the world as a TV presenter, modeling for Stella McCartney, starting a property investment company, running an arts brand, designing a wheelchair for shop mannequins, and so much more.

Before she heads to Rio for the 2016 Paralympics, we sat down with Sophie to talk wheelchair myths, not being superhuman and why disabled people are too diverse to label.

How do you feel about being called disabled?
Everybody knows when something is broken, it’s disabled. The other day I was using my phone and it got too hot and said it was disabled. But it’s not about how broken we are, it’s about what we’re able to do.

Is broken a word you’d use to describe yourself?
I have a broken back, so scientifically and physiologically, I am, but mentally and emotionally, I’m not. The problem is disabled is used to define a massively diverse category, we can’t find a word that would unite everybody. We’re not all the same, just like we’re not all superhumans.

Speaking of superhumans, I saw some people called the Channel 4 Paralympics video patronising - I thought it was incredible!
So did I, but I totally sympathised with those comments as well because I’m not a Paralympian, I don’t strive to be one. But it’s the attitude I really identify with – ‘yes I can’ doesn’t mean that ‘there’s no such thing as can’t’. I can’t walk, and no matter how positive I am I can’t get up a flight of stairs. But the advert is incredible. Like I said, it’s a huge demographic and not everybody will be pleased.

Do you have a different relationship with your wheelchair than someone who was born with a disability?
It’s like that saying, it’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. I don’t know what it would be like to be born with a disability, but I do know having acquired one quite late in life that it throws up challenges. It’s just different.

Did it change you?
A lot. Having to adapt was difficult, but I felt a lot more determined. Its quite cliché, but it made me realise life’s really short, let’s crack on. Because there are so many things I can’t do, I’m very driven to do what I can do, because I think there’s nothing that should stop me.

What’s the biggest myth about being in a wheelchair?
I hear people say things like ‘oh, you can’t drive’. For someone with a different disability who’s more dependent on their chair, it’s very different, but for me, it’s the general perception that you’re not as able as you feel you are. My friends always say that we’re the same as everybody else… but you also need to respect us and treat us differently. People say ‘I wanted to help but I didn’t want to ask and upset you’, but we all need help sometimes.

Do you mind people asking you about your wheelchair?
Sometimes I’m like ‘not right now’ because it’s inappropriate or private, but other times if people are intrigued, especially young children, I find it refreshing. It depends on the time and place. My experience is different to the next person and I can’t speak for everyone, but there are common threads.

How did the experience of going shopping change?
It’s hard. I found it a bit depressing at first, because 13 years ago there weren’t any disabled models and I wondered where I belonged. Now, shops are more accessible and I actually designed a chair for mannequins so shops can integrate disability. It’s important for young disabled women and men to know they’re welcome.

So there have been some positives from your journey…
I learned to thinking outside of the box about how I could go about achieving things. Nine months after my accident, I trekked across Nicaragua for the BBC’s Beyond Boundaries, I’ve modeled for Stella McCartney, now I’m presenting the Paralympics for Channel 4… I also get to be part of events like Parallel London, a push/run mass participation event that helps celebrate inclusivity. These events are really important as being disabled doesn't mean you can't be active.

Before you head out to Rio for the Paralympics, what are you most looking forward to?
The opening ceremony! But also the wheelchair racing, and seeing David Weir and Ali Jawad in the powerlifting.

Jared Leto's Gucci Pics And 9 Other Super Hot Perfume Campaigns

When fashion’s fave kooky futurologist Alessandro Michele cherry picks you for his latest Gucci perfume campaign (soz Mr Styles), you know you’re more than just every 2005 teenager’s emo idol. You’re Jared Leto aka the game-changing guyliner wearing, boundary breaking transgender method actor, and the source of more hair and makeup inspo than KJ’s Insta account.

And what better way to celebrate another Hollywood hunk joining the perfume world than checking out the all time hottest ads?

From David Gandy's epic seaside scene for Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue to Game Of Thrones' Kit Harington's recent fashion foray as the face of Jimmy Choo's MAN, we can't get enough of staring at moody men selling us something sweet.

Take a look at our pick of the ten best fragrant fancies. Happy Friday!

1. Robert Pattinson for Dior Homme

Totally aloof, cool kid actors engaged to FKA Twigs may not be your immediate choice for a Dior perfume ad but when it's gritty Brit Robert Pattinson and it's shot in artsy black and white, it's a whole other story. And going by their most recent choice of Johnny Depp, clearly Dior like to think of themselves as the badasses of the perfume world. Either way, we think R Patz looks pretty hot. What can we say? We dig a moody dude in a suit.

2. David Gandy for Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

What can we say? David Gandy glistening in the sun in nought but a pair of speedos is almost NSFW. This might be the only time we approve of tighty whities on the beach. Good work Gandy. Oh, and did we mention there's two brand new limited edish Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue fragrances with him in as well? Trust us, you'll want to google them.

3. Gaspard Ulliel for Bleu de Chanel

Talk about digging French men. When Gaspard Ulliel first hit our screens in Chanel's ultra-catchy ad, we couldn't get his suffering actor 'act' out of our heads. We're not going to be the person we're expected to be either!

4. Colin Farrell for Dolce & Gabbana Intenso

Staying true to Dolce & Gabbana's love of a man casually strewn across some rocks, Colin Farrell's smouldering ad for their Intenso scent went down a treat with us.

5. Kit Harington for Jimmy Choo MAN

A newcomer to the epic arena of beauty campaigns, Game Of Thrones' Jon Snow aka Kit Harington bagged himself a sweet deal as the face of Jimmy Choo's aptly named MAN scent. We'd let him shoulder our legs any day...

6. James Franco for Gucci by Gucci Sport

Somewhere between James Dean and New York's arthouse scene, James Franco's black and white ads for Gucci reminded us of the majorly handsome pre-Springbreakers Franco we know and love. Goofy smile and gangsta grills not required.

7. Brad Pitt for Chanel No. 5

Could this be the first perfume ad ever to break the internet? When Brad Pitt's ever so slightly annoying but completely cool film for Chanel No.5 hit our screens, we fell a little bit more in love with the bearded beauty. If that's possible.

8. Chris Evans for Gucci Guilty

Get us a bucket of cold water, that's one hot potato. Phew! Captain America actor Chris Evans definitely deserves his place on our list. Now that's a hug we want to be part of.

9.  Liam Hemsworth for Diesel Only The Brave

We're not sure why so many perfume ads are black and white, maybe it's more romantic? Edgier? We don't know, but what we do know is Liam Hemsworth looks awesome. Almost convincing us we could bump into him on the stairs in real life, we're buying what he's selling.

10. Josh Hartnett for Emporio Armani Diamonds

The eyes, the wry grin, the dishevelledness of it all! We'd grab a piece of Josh Hartnett any day. And we're assuming he smells pretty great as well.
