I admit I've never been a hat girl (too many instagram girls in fedoras) but I love the season so I've chosen to go for it this year and found 6 looks to take me through. I personally stil ltry avoid the cheesy fascinators and comments like 'there's a bird on your head!' (be honest, we all know only Carrie Bradshaw can work that look). I grew up in Surrey so have done Ascot races, know the Cartier Polo in side out and all over riveria weddings. What does a hat need to be? Elegant. Directional. And super sexy.
The Look: The Modern Pillbox
Wear With: I love this hat's neon accent with the navy satin base! As the look is quite formal I'd wear my hair down and even a bit beachy to make the whole vibe cooler but wear a slightly darker dress (navy and merlot red) so the fluoro is considered and really pops. Finish off with an amazing pair olive suede heels, my favourite are Gianvitto Rossi - super chic.
Best for: Ascot, weddings and smart garden parties.
Hat: £248, Bundle MacLaren
The Look: Oldschool Hollwood Glamour
Wear with: I'm a big fan of a wide brim and how beautiful is this hat tie? (I'd say use how I have as feature in the hair). This is the perfect hat to wear with prints, delicate florals or something loose and romantic. I'd stay away from bodycon (wide brims and bodycon result in that dated look we need to avoid), keep it looking chic and old school glam. I'd finish by layering fine jewellery and pair it with an oversized clutch or minimal shoulder bag.
Best for: The wedding of a life time.
Hat, £348, Lisa Tan
Shirt, £45, Gudrun Sjödén
Jewellery, Robyn's own.
The Look: City Chic
Wear with: Hats are great for owning that exhibitionist moment. Finally, a hat cool with jeans (formal meets Pete Doherty type look) AND would work at Ascot with a peach or cream silk dress. Avoid drop earrings, rather opt for statement rings!
Best for: Meeting your boyfriends parents or seeing your ex at the races.
Hat, £348, Stephen Jones
Shirt, £45, Gudrun Sjödén
Jewellery, Robyn's own.
The Look: Dutchess of Cambridge
Wear with: Ok this is as royal as I go, but the apricot colour kind of grew on me. I've played down the formailty with a sexy dress (well in my case a back to front robe) and kept the hair sleek and chic.
Best for: A royal event or to meet the queen.
Hat, from a selection Jane Taylor
Robe, £438, Morpho and Luna
The Look: From Runway to Races
Wear with: I feel like Lauren Hutton in this delicate boater style hat (DON'T be scared of boaters, they are my absolute favourite and by my far the coolest to go for). Perfect with a trouser suit and 90's strappy heels. This is probably what I would wear to Ascot... summery, cool yet has a bit of (who is she??) feel to it.
Best for: Henley or the polo
Hat, £300, Mich Dulce
Robe, £438, Morpho and Luna
The Look: The Ibiza Weddings
Wear with: The sun's out but doesn't mean you should lose your fashion head. This is the way to indulge in your bright colour and print fetish - and keep your classic and slinky. Pair with a miminal black heel.
Best for: Destination weddings.
