Why Westworld Is The HBO Show We Can't Wait For This Autumn

Westworld TV Show

Westworld will be a 'dark odyssey'

HBO

If you haven't heard of Westworld yet, you soon will.

HBO's newest TV show Westworld is the latest addition to Sky Atlantic's packed autumn schedule, and it promises to be every bit as good as fellow HBO series trail blazers Game of Thrones and True Detective. Why? Well, for one it's being executively produced by none other than Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J Abrams (he also directs the pilot episode, which is all kinds of awesome) plus, Westworld's series cast features a whole host of incredible on-screen talent befitting a brand new, big-budget HBO show. No seriously, this show is definitely going to pick up where Stranger Things left off.

Here's why we're excited...

1. Westworld release date - when is Westworld on TV?
Westworld makes it's Sky Atlantic debut on October 2nd, which for HBO series fans is probably the greatest news ever. Not only is October a pretty dull and drab time of year (perfect time to stay in, get cosy and binge watch TV), but it will also bridge the gap nicely for all those Game of Thrones waiting patiently for series 7 to start in 2017.

2. Westworld cast - who is starring in Westworld?
Westworld boasts a pretty impressive cast list that we are super excited about including Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden and Thandie Newton.

3. What is Westwood about? I like Stranger Things, will I like this?
Absolutely, Westwood is an absolute must for fans of Sci Fi, so if Stranger Things is your thang then you're going to love Westworld. Based on the 1973 film of the same name, which was written and directed by American novelist Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park, yes the very same), Westworld is billed as a 'dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin'. Or in a nutshell, it's going to be really dark, and probably pretty bloody unsettling. Bring. It. On.

4. Can I watch the Westworld trailer?
See below. Yeah, it looks pretty darn spooky right? Plus, anything with Antony Hopkins AKA Hannibal Lecter playing a creepy old man in it is always going to have us hooked.

5. Who is working on Westworld?
Well, as we mentioned before, J.J Abrams is executively producing the show, and is also directing the pilot. But we're super excited about writer/director Jonathan Nolan's involvement — yes, brother of massive Dunkirk director Christopher Nolan, small world huh — with whom he co-wrote scripts such as The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Interstellar. So, we did mention that Westworld might be quite dark, yes?

6. Westworld TV soundtrack - what kind of music can we look forward to?
The music is composed by Ramin Djawadi, who also worked with Nolan on the TV series Person of Interest. Apparently, The Rolling Stones track Paint It Black also makes an appearance...

7. Wait, we've heard Westworld is about a theme park...
It is, and it isn't. Think about a theme park in the future, that's staffed by robots and you're sort-of on the right track. Excited? We are...
