Nicole Kidman WON The Red Carpet Last Night
To rephrase a classic go-to Dermot O’Leary line, your award season starts right HERE! Last night the Critic’s Choice Awards took place in Santa Monica, California with all the major award contenders in red carpet action. Aside from the small matter of winning an actual award, here are the 5 lasses (and a gent) who stole the style crowns and what we can expect from them in the coming months…
Nicole Kidman In Brandon Maxwell
Nicole showed that cut-outs can be a) classy and b) timeless no matter your age (Nic is 49 FYI!). Sign us up for having that washboard stomach at her age. What. A. Woman. *Books self into body pump class immediately*
Emma Stone In Roland Mouret
Emma Stone, the star of the film getting ALL the awards buzz, La La Land, jumped right on the back of the noughties comeback. Ticking off the 00’s clothing cornerstones in turn: the halterneck, cut outs on the side, contrast panelling and what appeared to be the 00’s go-to for any club going gal, the going out OUT top.
Ryan Gosling In A Suit (STOP PRESS!)
Ryan Gosling shunned the bow tie or even a tie which is about as daring as a man can get on the red carpet. Edgy much? Basically the resulting effect was that all the attention was drawn to his stunning face. Ideal.
Natalie Portman in Alexander McQueen
Prepare yourself for a schooling in maternity dressing as the actress takes on the award season circuit with her title role in Jackie. Winning the award for Best Leading Actress at the event, the floral printed dress didn’t play to the Black Swan’s form but equally didn’t overwhelm her.
From certain angles it does give off toilet doily vibes, but who doesn’t look to be reminded of their Nana’s house?
Naomie Harris Doing Glam Goth
Always the bridesmaid and never really the bride, the Brit took on a stapless tux meets dress hybrid. With a sheer skirt thrown in for good measure, it was glam goth at it’s finest.
Lily Collins in Elie Saab.
Phil Collins’ daughter is basically the new Keira Knightley- she is a designer’s clothes horse dream as with a frame like hers nothing could ever look bad. Serving up Maid Marion medieval queen vibes with delicate detailing it was a glorious example of how covering up can be sass and sexy in equal measures. Also gave our girl Naomie a run for her make-up money with another glam glothic look. Amazing what you can do with a black Crayola crayon.
Side note: Milo Ventimiglia
Who dat boy? Looking next level dishy in his dressy suit, the actor accessorised with a wonderful looking tash. Never heard of him before but now I am going to spend my Monday morning googling him extensively and crushing on him hard. Never have I ever had a more productive Monday.
